RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch

Before completing the RSPB's Big Garden Birdwatch, which as many of you know is a nationwide survey running from January 30th-31st where you have to record the birds in your garden, I visited Warnham Local Nature Reserve.

Visiting the Woodpecker hide, there was a lot of activity at the feeders, with more species appearing than I have seen there for a long time. It was quite nice to see a lesser Redpoll as well as Siskin and Redpoll returning to Warnham.

Big Garden Birdwatch

This year I decided to take part in the RSPB's Big Garden Birdwatch at my Nan's house. She has regular visitors unlike my garden which backs on to a main road, meaning we do not get many birds.

Starting at 3:50 I managed to record 13 Species. I was very lucky as with less than 5 minutes to go a flock of 10 Long-Tailed Tits appeared in the trees, adding another species to the list!

These were: 9 Blue Tit, 1 Starling, 1 Blackbird, 2 Woodpigeon, 1 Chaffinch, 1 Robin, 3 Great Tit, 1 Magpie, 1 Dunnock, 10 Long-Tailed Tit, 1 Coal Tit, 1 Wren and 1 Nuthatch.

If you haven't already taken part make sure you do tomorrow as it is a great survey with lots of people already taking part meaning some great data!
